ปัญหาที่เจอบ่อย ในข้อสอบ Error Identification หรือ Cloze Test หลายคนมั่วเวลา (tense) เพราะมองไม่เห็นลำดับเหตุการณ์ว่าอะไรเกิดก่อน-หลัง ทำให้เลือกคำตอบผิดทั้งๆ ที่รู้ grammar
วิธีทำ
- หา "time marker" ในประโยคก่อน — เช่น yesterday, next week, since, already, last year, for + ระยะเวลา
- สร้างเส้นเวลาคร่าวๆ ในหัว: สมมติว่ามีเหตุการณ์ A เกิดก่อน B → A ต้องเป็น Past Perfect, B เป็น Past Simple
- ดู verb ที่เป็น main action (กริยาหลัก) ว่าสอดคล้องกับ time marker หรือไม่
- ตรวจ verb ที่เป็น subordinate clause ว่ามี sequence of tenses ถูกต้องไหม (เช่น reported speech: He said that he was tired. — ไม่ใช่ he is tired)
- ถ้าเป็น Conditional Sentence: จำ Template — If + Past Simple, would + V1 (Type 2) / If + Had P.P., would have P.P. (Type 3)
ตัวอย่าง ข้อสอบ: "She has finished her homework before she went out."
- คำว่า "before" + "went" (Past Simple) → การบ้านต้องเกิดก่อน → ต้องใช้ Past Perfect: had finished
- ดังนั้น "has finished" ผิด → ต้องแก้เป็น "had finished"
ข้อสอบ Cloze: "By the time he arrives, the meeting _____ already started."
- Time marker: "By the time he arrives" (Present Simple สำหรับอนาคต) → การกระทำในอนาคตที่เกิดก่อนอีกเหตุการณ์ → ต้องใช้ Future Perfect: "will have already started"
